Course Name:
Integrating Creative Arts into Elementary Classroom Curriculum - Designed for multiple subject teachers in grades K-6
The arts are a core subject in 21st century education, a pathway for creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration. Arts integration and interdisciplinary learning offer powerful opportunities for students to actively build and demonstrate creative habits of mind, knowledge and skills across the curriculum. In this lively workshop, folktales spark science inquiry and multimedia collages make meaning in a universal language. Teachers will participate in hands-on studio art experiences that open new possibilities in English language arts, ELD, and science in the elementary classroom. We will explore how the arts inform the Common Core State Standards and enrich the teaching of core concepts in informational and narrative texts. Participants will create books and original works of art, discuss and adapt integrated lessons at grade level, and learn strategies for differentiated instruction, assessment, and classroom management. Be ready to release your imagination, have fun, and be inspired!
