Professional Collaboration

Program Overview

CSET's Professional Collaboration pilot provides teachers time and resources to develop ongoing collaboration plans with their PD course colleagues around their shared learning. The ongoing collaboration and implementation of summer learning is awarded additional continuing studies credit for each quarter of the school year that teachers spend at least 10 hours implementing their learning.

Participating CSET PD Courses

The pilot is open to any teacher attending a CSET PD course during  summer 2017. Participating courses include:

    Daily Collaboration Time during PD Courses

    For approximately 45 minutes each day of the PD course, teachers will have designated time for collaboration. The main goal for this time is that teachers are using it in a way that best supports the ongoing implementation of their PD learning in their classrooms throughout the school year. Experience and research have shown that embarking upon this endeavor with colleagues offers great benefits. We encourage teachers to use this time to find a few course colleagues with a similar interest in the PD course, make a plan for ongoing collaboration, and practice your plan to give it the best chance for success. At the end of the PD course teachers who plan to participate in the pilot will submit collaboration plans to CSET. We will stay in touch to learn about and support your collaboration and award credit.


    FAQs

    Do I have to participate in the pilot if I am attending the PD course?
    No. There is no requirement to participate, but you’ll probably want to because it will deepen your experience.

    What do I do during Daily Collaboration Time if I am not participating in the pilot?
    This time can and should still be spent collaborating with colleagues around what you are learning. Those who are participating in the pilot will be using the time to develop plans for collaborating beyond the course. Those who are not participating can make use of this unique time in their schedules to engage with colleagues in conversation about what they are learning, share resources and strategies, or plan for the upcoming school year. 

    What happens if my group members drop out at some point? Does this mean I cannot continue or earn credit?
    You can still earn credit regardless of whether your entire collaboration team makes it through the quarter. The main requirement for credit is that you show evidence of 10 hours of summer learning implementation in your classroom. You can continue to do so for the remaining quarters as well.

    Can I participate in the pilot if I don’t care about credit, but just want to collaborate with my course colleagues? 
    Yes! You and your colleagues will benefit tremendously from the support you provide one another to implement summer learning collaboratively throughout the year. At the end of your PD course you’ll have the option to indicate that you are interested in continuing with the pilot, but are not interested in receiving credit. We would still love to stay in touch and learn about how you are collaborating!

    Can I change my mind about earning credit?
    Yes! If you do initially indicate that you are interested in earning credit, you can decide at any point to earn credit. Credit registration takes place at the end of the final quarter that you participate in Professional Collaboration.

    Do I have to earn a credit in a single quarter? In other words, can I spread my credit over multiple quarters?
    Yes! If, for example, you complete 5 hours of work in Q1 and then another 5 hours in Q2, you can earn one credit at the end of Quarter 2. You must submit your log of hours at the end of each quarter, and we will add up your hours when you are ready to apply for credit.

    Do we have to use the Collaboration Plan & Agenda template in order to earn credit?
    No. The template is there to highlight some of the important components of successful collaboration. Your group should get organized in a way that works for you.
