Virtual Coaching

Program Overview

Teachers attend their chosen Stanford Teaching Festival course from 31 July - 4 August, 2017. One day during the week from 4 - 5p, interested teachers attend an oganizing meeting to learn more about ongoing video coaching. Teachers commit to participating in the follow-up program before leaving the Stanford Teaching Festival*. The program consists of four virtual coaching cycles, and teachers can choose to participant in all 4 or just 2.

  • Cycle 1 (one-on-one with coach) September 2017
  • Cycle 2 (with 2-3 teachers from same course) Oct-Nov 2017
  • Cycle 3 (one-on-one with coach) Jan-Feb 2018
  • Cycle 4 (with 2-3 teachers from same course) Mar-Apr 2018

Details of the Coaching

Coaching Cycles 1 and 3

  • Set instructional goal and plan lesson to support that goal
  • Teach, record, upload the lesson
  • Create 20-minute clip of section of lesson most related to goal; share with coach
  • Review video and make reflective comments; coach does the same
  • Discuss with coach using a virtual platform and video conference call

Coaching Cycles 2 and 4

  • Set instructional goal and plan lesson to support that goal
  • Teach, record, and upload the lesson
  • Create 20-minute clip of section of lesson most related to goal; share with coach and peers
  • Review video and make reflective comments on own video and peer videos; coach and peers do the same
  • Discuss with coach and content cluster using a virtual platform and video conference call

Cost

  • $800 USD per teacher for participating in 4 cycles during one school year
  • $400 USD per teacher for 2 of 4 cycles

*Participating in Virtual Coaching does not preclude teachers from participating in the Professional Collaboration pilot.
