Daniel Pimentel is an assistant professor of science education at the University of Alabama. His research focuses on the areas of science media literacy, epistemic cognition, nature of science, and bridging the fields of science education and science communication. He is currently collaborating with science teachers and their students to understand how young people learn to evaluate scientific information and misinformation on the internet. He also studies how science teachers incorporate ideas about science in the media and on the internet into their instruction. He teaches courses on secondary science teaching for pre-service and in-service educators and research seminars for doctoral students. Daniel holds a B.S. in biology and an M.Ed. in secondary education from Boston College, an Advanced Certificate in special education from the Relay Graduate School of Education, and a PhD in science education with a cross-specialization in learning sciences and technology design from Stanford University.
